Adelaide Festival Centre in association with inSpace Presents: CONTACT
[Kiah Gossner - Director and Composer]

’CONTACT’ started it’s life in the back of a tour bus somewhere in Europe. The initial idea was to create a piece of music that followed a strong narrative theme, similar to a film in form. Growing up in theatres has always left me wanting more from musical performance; it wasn’t long before ‘CONTACT’ took on a life of its own and visual and structural elements started to emerge. After the first development, I decided that the show needed words to layer the landscape of each distinct movement more richly. My team is one filled with world-class artists in their own rights; creating a work like this requires immense support and generosity, and I cannot thank them enough for what they have contributed.

The journey I invite you into is one that continues to exist relatively unspoken at the heart of our broken country, it is a human cycle that we know is flawed and struggle to break free from. Speaking about domestic violence is fraught with difficulty whether you are directly or indirectly involved or looking on from afar, and as I watch Australia struggle to articulate a way forward, tempted to close its eyes when there is no easy answer, I offer a way in through the form I know best. I hope that it speaks to you, I hope that you speak to each other.
